Can Cellulite be Eliminated?

In fact, you cannot eliminate the “cottage cheese” on your thighs and rear end But there are steps you can take to get rid of cellulite.

What are the main  Causes of Cellulite?

Cellulite is just the normal fat that is placed under your skin: It seems a bit lumpy due to it pushes against the connective tissue which causes the skin to pucker. That is  the reason why you can have it whether you are heavy or thin. Besides, women are more likely to get it than men.

There are other causes that can bring cellulites on like:

  • Poor diet,
  • Fad dieting,
  • Slow metabolism,
  • Lack of physical activity,
  • Hormone changes,
  • Dehydration,
  • Total body fat,
  • Thickness and color of your skin.

It can be noticed that on darker skins, it is not so visible. Hence, if your skin is light, a self-tanner may make the bumps and dimples harder to spot.

As regards ways of eliminating cellulite, it is possible to find some methods that work better than others.

Cryolipolysis

This is a noninvasive technique which freezes and kills fat cells. Once the cells are dead, your body naturally removes them. This treatment is usually used for body shaping, but fat removal can also improve your cellulite. It can take three treatments and 3 or 4 months for you to see results.

Laser Treatments

It is also called radiofrequency systems. This treatment  mixes massage, liposuction, or light therapy. It is able to liquefy fat, cut connective tissue to loosen puckering, boost collagen growth and skin tightening, increase blood flow, and lessen fluid retention. Expect results to last at least 6 months.

Massage

Most of the massages are based on the idea that treating the problem area might increase blood flow and reduce fluid buildup. As a result, you may get better- looking hips and buttocks.

When it comes to a specific type of mechanical massage, we can talk about Endermologie (or lipomassage or endermology). This kind of treatment works with a machine with low-pressure suction that kneads your skin between two spinning rollers.

The objective is that the deep massage breaks up the connective tissue that causes dimples. Although some studies show that massage techniques, including endermologie, make your skin look better for a short time, they cannot offer a long-term benefit.

On the other hand, experts questioned  that the suction might cause the skin to slacken prematurely, making it look worse.

Shockwave Therapy

It is not determined how well it works or for how long does the effect last. But you can do this procedure twice a week for 6 or more weeks and It could give you results for 2 to 6 months.

Shrink Fat, Build Muscle

As it was stated before, everyone can have cellulite, people of all sizes can have it. Yet if you’re overweight, the most effective treatment is to shed extra pounds and tone your body. You can consider eating less and add more cardio and strength training exercise. You can try lifting weights at least 2 days a week, focusing on your legs, hips, and backside. Strong, defined muscles under a thinner fat layer will make your skin smoother and less puckered.

Subcision

This  procedure is a bit invasive but it  can improve your cellulite. The results last for at least 2 years. It consists of the doctor marking the area, injecting a numbing solution, and then inserting a tiny blade to cut the connective tissue that holds your fat onto those dimples.

Topical Products

On the market, there exist a great variety of creams which as sold  to reduce cellulite. Many of them are made of ingredients that are intended to promote fat breakdown (caffeine, aminophylline, theophylline). Others contain vitamins, minerals, and herbal extracts. In general, these products offer few benefits on their own However, they may add some value when combined with other treatments.

Treatments to Avoid

Try to avoid all kind of injectables treatments.  Some doctors are keen on mesotherapy: injecting chemicals into the fat layer below the skin to encourage breakdown and make cellulite less noticeable. These chemicals used include phosphatidylcholine, aminophylline, hormones, herbal extracts, vitamins, and minerals.

This treatment is not recommended  by doctors because there is a high risk of  infection, swelling, rashes, and lumpy skin.

As we always advise our patients, before choosing any treatment, you should consult a professional who can guide you and help you achieve better results without risking your body and skin.
